Best airports to fly from in South Korea

South Korea’s network is anchored by Incheon (ICN), the main long-haul gateway, and Gimpo (GMP), strong on shorter regional hops. Busan (PUS) suits travelers in the southeast and can offer competitive fares to Japan and parts of Southeast Asia. Jeju (CJU) is essential for island residents but also appears in creative routings when low-cost sales appear.

Choosing by trip type

For intercontinental travel, ICN usually offers the widest schedule and alliance options. For quick hops to Japan or China, compare GMP against ICN — surface travel time to the airport matters, and sometimes a slightly higher fare from GMP still wins on total journey time and cost.

If you live outside the capital region, check Busan or Daegu before defaulting to Seoul. The incremental domestic leg can erase savings if the fare difference is small, but when sales target secondary cities, the gap can be meaningful.
